I was given the opportunity to review Triple Action Purex Laundry Detergent a few weeks ago. I just finished using the bottle and I have to say, I loved it! It did a fabulous job!! Let me tell you a little bit about it!

My first thought was that it would be too time consuming to get everything in the computer that I had in my head. But what I found was that it is more time consuming trying to do it by yourself without the aid of this fantastic website. I especially like the chore charts. My kids seem to really like them too. We had fun this holiday season, but it is time to get back into routines. This is definitely a big help. On June 2, 1995, U.S. Air Force Captain Scott O'Grady was patrolling the United Nations designated no-fly zone over war torn Bosnia when his F-16 fighter was struck by a surface-to-air missile at 27,000 feet above the Earth. He desperately pulled his ejection lever and was catapulted into the sky at 350 miles an hour. Remarkably, he managed to land unscathed in enemy territory.

For six incredible days and nights, O'Grady eluded capture by the Bosnian Serbs who relentlessly hunted him. Utilizing his survival training to the maximum, O'Grady said it was also his faith in God that sustained him. On his third day on the ground, he experienced the love of God to such a level that it took away his fear of death. On the sixth day in a daring daylight rescue, an elite team of marines moved in with a chopper, dodged enemy fire, and pulled the young American hero to safety.

At a national press conference following his triumphant return, O'Grady said, "If it wasn't for my love for God and God's love for me, I wouldn't be here right now." His inspirational and patriotic story is a brilliant testimony to Article Six of the United States Military Code of Conduct: "I will never forget that I am an American, fighting for freedom, responsible for my actions, and dedicated to the principles which made my country free. I will trust in my God and in the United States of America."

DISNEY LIVE!!! Three Classic Fairy Tales, WOW!!!!

We had QUITE the fun weekend!! We started the weekend on Thursday, the kids were out of school for conferences. We headed to Kansas City for two days of Great Wolf Lodge! What fun...but this isn't a review about Great Wolf Lodge...so that is where I stop talking about it. I only bring it up because we left Kansas City at 8am in order to get to Omaha to see Disney Live in time. When I woke up groggy and moody, I starting thinking....do I REALLY want to go??? Other than having the obligation to write a review, I was just BEAT and REALLY didn't want to roll out of my warm bed. But...I did...and let me tell you....it was WELL WORTH IT!

We made it into Omaha around 12. We scarfed some food down quickly and my friend Malissa and her two girls were here to meet me around 12:30. Jeff and the boys are out of town hunting, so I chose the next best thing to go with us!

Disney Live started with the usual crew....Mickey...Donald...Goofy and Minnie! The best of the best!

THEN...we started into the fairy tales! The first one was Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs! Always one of my favorites!! She looked SO pretty...and her voice was so spot on to what a little girl would think Snow White would sound like! The Dwarfs were absolutely AWESOME too!!! They were perfectly put together!

The mean Queen was awfully scary though. I wish they would have done Snow White last because my 3 year old was so scared by the Queen that the rest of the show he was terrified that she would come back. She was pretty scary!

As always the fairy tale ended with Snow White riding off into the sunset with her prince charming!

The next Fairy Tale was Cinderella...another Classic and favorite! What little girl NEVER though she was Cinderella!!??

Her dress was by far the MOST stunning when she turned into the Beautiful "Princess" for the ball!

Again...as usual...the fairy tale ended like a fairy tale should....the girl got the guy and they lived Happily Ever After! :-)

Finally was The Beauty and the Beast. This wasn't an ALL time favorite of mine...but when I first saw it in high school, it quickly became a favorite! It was VERY creative. The Beast costume was beautifully made. I was truly impressed with the props and the abilities of the actors in this one. The costumes were STUNNING!

As is the case Belle and the Beast became Prince and Princess...and lived Happily Ever After!

This truly was a MAGNIFICENT show! My daughter LOVED it...because of the princesses no doubt...but my 3 year old son also thought it was fabulous....except for the Queen....he isn't a fan of hers! :-)

I would recommend Disney Live, 3 Classic Fairy Tales to ANYONE of ANY age. I think it would be a hit among girls AND boys. This would make a fabulous family event. Even my 12 year old son was saddened that he was unable to go! He loves things like that...and I have no doubt that he would also love this. If any boy says he doesn't love this...it is only his "machoism" that is trying to take hold...deep inside, he loves it too!!

GO TO IT! You won't be sorry!!!!

Mat Kearney Concert!

I got the INCREDIBLE pleasure of reviewing Mat Kearney's album Young Love...then I was INCREDIBLY blessed when I was asked to review his concert here in Omaha as well! Wow. I can't say ENOUGH about Mat Kearney. I loved him before...but now I REALLY love him...and I managed to hook my husband too by taking him to the show with me! Here are some facts:

So let me start with the night. The concert started at 8 pm.....but I forgot that there are always openers. Thet opener for Mat is Leagues. Two of the guys from Mat's band is also helping out this band....so they are working double duty. What great guys!! Leagues was...different. I wasn't sure I was totally thrilled with them. I was standing back by one of the bars and they had the Jets/Ravens game on. I am a HUGE football fan...so after awhile of listening to Leagues...I have to admit to glancing over to watch the game. I think they could have a future....but I am just not so sure how GOOD of a recording future they may have. They weren't BAD...just not...well...they need work let's put it that way.

Forgive me for the pictures....my camera did NOT cooperate....it was foggy in there, so I don't know if it didn't understand how to focus with all that "fog" or what...but I wasn't happy with my results. The pictures I am posting are actually the best of the bunch.

We stood back by the light and sound booth. It was standing room only...literall...no chairs. I wish I had known, I would have wore different shoes. It was at Sokol Auditorium, which is a great historical building....I just didn't know I wouldn't be sitting...or have the option to sit....but once Mat Kearney took the stage, I didn't much care! Being by the sound/lighting booth was really cool too. I have never seen what those hard workers do "behind the scenes"....it was very impressive to say the least!

Here is Jeff and I waiting for Mat to take the stage. At about 9:30....it happened!! What we had been waiting for! He was PHENOMENAL!!! He sounds JUST like his CD's...so many artists don't sound like their CD's...but not Mat Kearney....it sounded like I was jammin' out in the car. He is a cross between Dave Matthews and Matthew West as far as his sound goes. He is an AWESOME performer....he is very personable to the audience...and there was not ONE person there watching that game...not even me!!! :-)

He definitely had EVERYONE'S undivided attention!! INCREDIBLE! He played for over an hour...waiting OF COURSE until the encore to play "Like Ships in the Night" and "Hey Mama"...the one that everyone was waiting for!

All in all it was one of the best...if not THE best concert I have been to...and I have been to a lot of big name concerts....he has something very special though!

My Take:

WOW! That is all I have to say! WOW!! Our family has had several nights of playing with these. IN THE DARK TOO! I say that in bold because ALL of my four children are terrified of the dark!! But they loved to sit there and watch eachother try different tricks and synchronize it to different songs! We videotaped Cam and Jake using them. I posted them on youtube and I put the link on this post as well. Be sure to check it out! Remember...Cam and Jake are only 12 and 10...they are amateurs...and they have only had them a few days...I imagine that with practice they will really be able to do incredible things with them! They already do a GREAT job! Cam was given Nytfyr...it has red and white lights. Jake got Cyclone with the white and green lights.

The boys are going on a hunting/camping trip this next week with their cousin and a couple friends...and dads. The boys are really excited about bring the Fyrflyz for campsite entertainment! Funny how something so little can bring so much enjoyment!

MY TAKE:

(I want to say first...I started this book a really long time ago...maybe 9 months ago...but as you will read, life took some turns I wasn't prepared for. It took me a long time to get the book done because of these turns, and then longer for me to understand what was happening and to be able to post this....but I get it now!)

I dove into this book, ready to go with whatever they suggested. I was TOTALLY excited! I started talking to my husband about it right away. We had prayed off and on as a couple before, but never on a continuing basis. We had been having trouble. He has had a drinking problem for several years, but had trouble admitting it or getting help. I was REALLY ready to start our adventure praying together. So we did...just what the book told us to do. The first few times it was awkward, but it got easier. Then...Satan attacked us. He didn't like what was happening apparently and had to put a stop to it. My husbands drinking got worse and he finally admitted he had a problem and went away to rehab for 30 days. I couldn't understand why this was happening...here I was praying with my husband nightly and then this happens. At the time, I got really angry at God. But, now...looking back, I realize that praying together may have actually been what saved our marriage. If he hadn't gotten worse...if he hadn't gone away to rehab...I can't say that we will still be living under the same roof. I have a nursing background. I try to look at it like this....you have a virus (troubled marriage)....you treat it with everything you can to feel better (prayer)....but it still has to run its course, it is going to get worse before it gets better (worse drinking...then rehab). Does that make sense? Prayer was what was needed though to help the virus NOT become an infection. If you don't rest when you have a virus...like a cold...it can turn into worse things, like a sinus infection, ear infection, etc. The prayer was the rest we needed to get to the point we needed to be at...to get him help. In order for him to get help, he needed that prayer that we did together.

Since he went to rehab, we got out of the habit of praying together. Once he got home, things got dicey again...he actually went BACK to rehab. We hadn't prayed together all summer....now we are again, and things are going MUCH better. I honestly have seen that praying together makes a difference...in many ways. We also seem to be closer...seem to communicate better....seem to understand eachother better. It is something that I would suggest to anyone. It is such an easy concept...and it even says to do it in the bible...why does it take so long for us to figure it out? I suppose we ask ourselves that question of our kids all the time, "Why can't they figure it out?" I guess God is asking that of us!

This is a MUST read to get yourselves into the habit!

MY TAKE:

I recognize Mat Kearney as a Christian artist...so I wasn't sure if I was going to like this CD or not...but all I can say is...."WOW!" It is an incredible album! I was pleasantly surprised! My whole family gets in the car and wants to hear it now! I really like "Hey Mama", "Ships in the Night", and "Count on Me." They are awesome songs. The whole CD is awesome! Very well put together, played, sung...everything about this CD screams HUGE HIT! He has such a smooth voice and he is so soulfull! I could listen to him sing all day I think!

I would definitely suggest Mat Kearney and this album to anyone. I think it has elements of a lot of different genres. I really think this CD is quite universal.

I have been one of the lucky ones to be asked to go to his Omaha show and review it! I am INCREDIBLY excited! I am taking a friend of mine and we are planning a fantastic night! I can't wait to come back here and post pictures and a review of what I am sure is going to be a very memorable evening!

Dominican Trip!!!!

Hi all!!! We are home and have been for a little over a week...but we have been POOPED! So sorry this is a slow post to get written! Between just getting enough rest, and getting over being sick from being way too tired...and getting ready for school which starts tomorrow...we have just been SOOOO busy! I FINALLY have all the pictures up and edited. You can find them on my facebook page, my profile is tonya stutzman filleman. I plan on posting my favorites on the site, but I also plan on having a running slide show on the left had side. I have the pictures uploaded to Picasa, but for whatever reason the albums don't want to cross to the blog. So I have to do some tweaking! I also have about a 50 page journal that I wrote while there...actually...probably longer. I wrote about 10 pages a day...they were smaller pages...so, I have about 100 pages of journaling to share...but don't worry...I won't share it all! I will just go through my journal and highlight the day! I will go day by day though, as I plan on using this blog as a bit of a diary for the kids when they get older too of what they/we have done! So sit back, relax and TUNE IN! I would encourage you to subscribe if you haven't already. You can do that on the sidebar. Time Island Review

I was asked to review a fun and engaging virtual world called "Surviving Time Island.".
Time Island is a virtual world where you can learn how to survive, play cool games, meet kids from all around the world, develop your own hut and create tribes with your new island friends! It is a lot like E-Pets, or Webkins...just with an older twist. You can earn points to buy things with, and you have to make sure you feed yourself, get enough rest, etc. Time Island is a place of wonder and adventure. Your survival skills will be put to the test as you explore white beaches and lush jungles; tree-top terraces and dark underground caverns.

You will have to outsmart, out maneuver and outlast the troublesome green creatures that inhabit the island, known as the Goggs.
Meanwhile, it’s a good idea to stick together so you and your friends can create and join a tribe. Survival is always easier when you’re not alone. To survive you must also care for your cleanliness and hygiene, and keep your avatar well fed.
Most importantly, keep your eyes open and your wits about you. Around any bush and behind any rock, even in the giant trees and hidden in the darkest corners of the caves, you will discover countless games and activities. Talk to your friends, or make new friends! A great virtual, fun world for most ages!!
To survive on Time Island is a challenge, but the fun is even greater!

MY TAKE:

I registered myself and tried it out with out first reading the instructions. It was difficult to figure out how to move without having first read the instructions. If I had read the instructions I would have had no problem at all. So...read the instructions! :-) I had a moment where I acted like a man apparently! :-) Anyway, I enjoyed it once I started going.

I then introduced it to my 12, 10 and 6 year old. The 12 year old liked it, said it was cool, but would rather play one of his dragon games. The 10 year old thought it was GREAT! He really enjoyed it! The 6 year old would have enjoyed it more if there were animals to play with! :-) So, I think it could be fun for any age....but probably more so around the 10 year mark.

It was clean fun though, which is something I am always looking for.

Leaving for the Dominican Republic!

HI GUYS!!!!!!! First off, I want to say THANK YOU SO MUCH for helping out financially for Cam and my trip to the Dominican Republic! You guys have NO idea HOW helpful you all were!!!! I am SO humbled and appreciative of your financial support and prayers!!!! If there is EVER I can do for ANY of you, please let me know! Until then, I have kept each one of you and your families in my prayers.

That said, I am letting you all know that we are leaving first thing tomorrow (Thursday the 21st) morning!! We are VERY excited….but also a bit anxious! Okay…A LOT anxious. I can’t fib…my dad is reading this….he knows how much of a basket case I have been! It isn’t so much even the trip as it is the preparation for the trip….making sure I have everything I need for myself and Cam, etc. You know…if we are going on vacation somewhere and forget something, we go to the nearest Walmart….if I forget something on this trip, I just have to do without and that scares me!! On our packing list it said, “Toilet paper, optional.” I called John Alford and asked him, “John…do we really need to bring our own toilet paper?” He said, “Well…it says optional on there.” I said, “And what is the other option?” He said, “Leaves.” Um…I am thinking I am packing toilet paper! It’s not like I have never camped and used leaves before…but I don’t want to do it in a third world country where I don’t know what kind of leaf I am using! :-~ That’s the LAST place I need a rash!
I also have been concerned for Cam….well, and I guess me as well. Jake and MaKenna had a cold this week. It was only about a two day cold…but one of those days was pretty miserable for them. Cam tends to get colds and they never stop there. They turn into something a lot worse because he has immunocompromised lungs. Soo….I called the doctor, and even though he has no symptoms right now, they put him on a preventative antibiotic and then I will bring the nebulizer and hope I have an electrical outlet to plug it into should we need it. I am worried about getting sick too…because I am also more sickly. I tend to get a cold and have it turn into more also….BUT….as a mother, I am more concerned about my babies then me! So…if you would keep Cam and I in your prayers for health and well being that would be FANTASTIC!!!
So….we will be flying into Santo Domingo after a LONG day of flying. We fly to Chicago, then to Miami and then into Santo Domingo around midnight. We will stay in a “hotel” in Santo Domingo the first night since we get in so late, then first thing in the morning we will head by van to San Juan, which is about 4 hours away. There we will hike to the village we will be at. Each day we will hike another 45 minutes to the actual village that we will be doing Vacation Bible School at and helping lay concrete slabs in some homes, fetching water at the well for people and doing home visits with evangelizing. At the end of each day we will hike another 45 minutes to our base camp. We will be there 10 days. On Saturday, the 30th we head back to Santo Domingo for another stay at the “hotel” and then on Sunday the 31st of July we have another LONG day of flying…but should be home by 6:30pm or so Sunday night.
It will be an exhausting 10 days, but one I am sure Cam and I won’t soon forget. Jeff if you are reading this…I know you have been with the other 3 kids for 10 days and will be ready to hand them off to me…but I could sure use some rest when I get home I think! At least Sunday night!  Speaking of which, if you would all keep Jeff in your prayers too as he will be providing for the kids, working from home, and being “mom” and dad. Thanks to Deana Ramsey who is keeping the kids two of the nights I am gone, and Scott and Melissa who will also be taking them from time to time. Also thanks to Dad and Jan who MIGHT take them camping one night! I know they’ll enjoy that…the kids anyway! 

For the last 3 years, she's been working with Huggies to create a program that empowers mom business owners with the money and information they need to build their businesses. MY TAKE:

I wasn't really sure about this book at first...but that was my own issue. I am used to only reading Christian fiction, so this was a leap for me. But it really didn't take long before I got into it and it was hard to stop reading. It was a delightful read, and very close to home. As someone who is also going through a lot of changes in her life right now, it was a great reminder of what we can do to better our lives. It came at a great time for me. It was truly stuff I needed to remind me of life and how to cope. It also was nice to know that even though the character was fictional, the mind it came from was not, and it was nice to know that there are other women out there who feel similar to how I feel. What a relief to know that I am not alone! I would suggest this book to any woman...not just a woman going through major changes in her life...but any woman. I truly believe that ANY woman can relate to this character in one way or another.

Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus

My family and I were given the opportunity to go to the Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus this past Friday night! The GREATEST show on earth...TRULY was THE GREATEST show on earth!! What a delight!! I have to say...we have only gone to little circuses before....my 10 and 12 year old were not happy to have to go to this one...but by intermission they were apologizing for giving me grief....they said, "This is SO cool!" So...that goes to show you that a circus is NOT just a circus. It is only a TRUE circus if it is a Ringling Brothers and Barnum and Bailey Circus!

First off, we had GREAT seats! 7th row...right up front! This next few pictures are of the opening show.
After the opening we went right into horses. My daughter is a HUGE fan of horses...this was FABULOUS for her! There were three rings. The first two rings held arabians, etc. The third ring in the back held ZEBRAS! If you look real closely you can see the stripes back there. My daughter was beside herself with excitement! NONE of my kids could remove their eyes from the front of the Qwest Center and the show had only JUST begun!

Shortly after horses we had these two...um...strong men come in. They were balancing telephone poles and logs...you name it...they even balanced eachother! They were...um...different to watch. After them came in the clowns that spoofed their abilities. The clowns came in after every act...but this particular clown spoof was by far the best! I was busting at the seams laughing so hard! Clowns don't USUALLY make me laugh! My kids are also VERY afraid of clowns...but suddenly they no longer are. They actually have been talking about the clowns all week!

There were several things that I didn't get pictures of...like a great dance routine by a group with space type shoes on so they could bounce really high....other acrobatics that I missed...it was just JAM packed full of awesome things!! My favorite was the elephants though. I just absolutely LOVE elephants. I don't know if I just love them because...or if I love them because I was raised with a mom that collected them and I have been around them all my life...I don't know...but the fact still stands that I LOVE elephants! I had a TON of pictures...but almost all but this one were too blurry to share. I was very upset. :-( They did a great job! So proud of my elephants!

And what is a circus without the tigers!!! I must say, this was the most exciting portion of the show because one of the tigers, Princessa, had a bit of an attitude and the show had to be cut short. The tiger tamer had a mic on...so we could hear everything he was saying to the tigers. Once he started yelling at Princessa for not behaving and she was VERY uncooperative, they shut his mic off and out came the whips. I heard a lot of people around me saying that he was being cruel and it wasn't fair what he was doing...but these are dangerous animals...and honestly, I would much rather him do that instead of letting this tiger maul him in front of thousands of little child eyes. His training measures may not be what we believe they should be...but in that situation, I think he did what was necessary. That big kitty was NOT in a nice mood. Very exciting! What we DID see of his show...which was very little...but what we DID see, was very nice.And who can forget the little um....circle guys. I don't even know what these things are called...but they are one of my favorites too!The tight rope is always exciting too and gets my heart pumping! Everyone did a great job. There was only that one problem with the tiger...otherwise the whole show went off without a hitch.
I would CERTAINLY suggest this circus to ANYONE of ANY AGE. I had a GREAT time and I KNOW my kids had a great time as well!!! Go to Ticket Master to see when and where they will be near you!!! It is DEFINITELY worth it!! I PROMISE!!!!

Food Allergy Awareness Week is May 8 – 14
by Michael J. Welch, MD, FAAAAI, FAAP, CPI

An estimated 1 in 20 children has a food allergy, a condition that can be severe, requiring strict avoidance of the triggering food(s) and prompt treatment of any allergic reaction. Foods can also trigger a variety of symptoms that are not classic allergies. It is important to seek a diagnosis so your child can safely enjoy nutritious foods that are not a problem and avoid foods that cause symptoms.

A food allergy occurs when the immune system, designed to fight infection, mistakenly attacks food proteins. Symptoms of a food allergy reaction can include vomiting, diarrhea, an itchy rash (ranging from just around the mouth and face to total-body hives), mouth and throat itchiness and swelling, difficulty breathing, and wheezing. Most true food allergy reactions occur within minutes after the food is ingested. In some cases, chronic symptoms such as persistent itchy skin rashes, eczema, or chronic gut symptoms (e.g., vomiting, pain, poor growth) are the result of food allergy.

The intensity of an allergic reaction may range from mild to severe at different times, partly depending on how much of an allergenic food the child eats, or whether it was cooked. However, certain highly allergic children need to swallow only a very small amount of an offending food to have a serious allergic reaction.

Common Food Allergens

Any food may cause an allergic reaction, but 90% of food allergies in children are caused by just 6 common foods or food groups: milk, eggs, peanuts, tree nuts, soy, and wheat. Allergies to fruits and vegetables are much less common and usually less severe.

How Serious Are Most Food Allergies

Some foods are more likely than others to cause severe reactions, such as peanut, tree nuts, and seafood. Your child’s general health may influence the severity of the allergy. Children with asthma are at a higher risk for severe reactions. Although a food allergy can cause severe reactions, fatalities are rare and often attributed to a delay in appropriate treatment. For those with potentially severe food allergy (anaphylaxis), it is important to learn how to strictly avoid the trigger food, and understand how to recognize and promptly treat a severe allergic reaction.

Managing Food Allergies

There are currently no cures for a food allergy. Management is based on avoiding the food and being prepared to treat an allergic reaction should the food be eaten accidentally. Anti-histamines can help mild symptoms such as itching and hives, but an epinephrine injection is necessary for severe symptoms or breathing difficulties (e.g., throat swelling, wheezing). If epinephrine needs to be given, the child should then be taken immediately for emergency medical care, or if necessary, 911 called.

If your pediatrician believes there is any risk that your child could have a severe allergic reaction (an anaphylactic reaction) to food, your pediatrician will recommend that you — and your child, when old enough to use it by himself – -always carry an epinephrine autoinjector device in case of an accidental ingestion of the food. The devices are easy to use and the medication is safe, but it is important to be familiar with the device being prescribed so that there are no delays in providing emergency treatment. A child at risk for anaphylaxis should also wear medical identification.

Be sure to provide full information about your child’s food allergy to school and camp personnel and child care providers. Children should be warned never to share or taste another child’s food. Update information regularly at the start of each school year and as new facts become available. In this regard, it is important to report accurate information, i.e., definite food allergies, not minor food sensitivities.

Food Allergies May Go Away With Time

Many children outgrow food allergies. More than 85% of allergies to milk, egg, wheat, and soy resolve during childhood, often before school age. Only about 1 in 5 children, on the other hand, ever outgrow a peanut allergy. Allergies to fish, shellfish, and tree nuts also tend to be more persistent, but some children outgrow these as well. It is important to regularly follow up with your pediatrician or allergist to discuss management and the possibility that the food allergy has resolved. Never try to intentionally test your child by feeding an allergen at home! If follow-up skin or blood test results are favorable showing the child is outgrowing their allergy, your doctor may suggest a medically supervised cautious feeding (also known as a food challenge) to see if the allergy has disappeared.

If you suspect that your child has a food allergy, make sure to discuss the possibility with your pediatrician. There are various tests the pediatrician and/or an allergist can perform to give you a definitive answer.

My take:

Okay...I must say...in theory these sound fantastic. Even as I am typing this out...sounds great. However, I wasn't impressed. Maybe they just take some getting used to...and maybe stainless steel cleaning edges truly ARE germ resistant...but I have a hard time keeping and reusing something that has cleaned gunk out of my teeth....without a proper sterilization. They were also hard for me to use. Again, maybe they just take some getting used to, but floss is much easier to manuever in my mouth since you don't have to be on top of the tooth to use it. This blade does not wrap around the tooth giving you easy access, and further more, since it doesn't wrap around your tooth, it is indeed getting the gunk out...but it is not actually CLEANING your teeth, which the floss will do if used properly. Might as well get gunk out WHILE cleaning them don't you think? Kill two birds with one stone basically?

Again...great in theory and as long as you don't mind reusing something to pick things out of your teeth, then it would be fantastic for you...or you could just do what my mom and dad did for years...carry a few toothpicks around with them wherever they went.

Purex has outdone themselves this time!!! They sent me a full size sample of their new Crystals softener. It came out in December in Walmart, and continued into other retailers in January. I have to say...they have hooked me. That's right...hook, line and sink HER! Not only does this stuff smell great, but it makes my clothes nice and soft and fluffy with just a faint fragrance. TO ALL THE KIDS WHO SURVIVED THE
1930's, 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's!!

First, we survived being born to mothers
Who smoked and/or drank while they were Pregnant.

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing,
Tuna from a can and didn't get tested for diabetes.
Then after that trauma, we were put to sleep on our tummies in baby cribs covered with bright colored lead-base paints.
We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles,
Locks on doors or cabinets and when we rode
Our bikes, we had baseball caps not helmets on our heads.
As infants & children,
We would ride in cars with no car seats,
No booster seats, no seat belts, no air bags, bald tires and sometimes no brakes.
Riding in the back of a pick-up truck on a warm day
Was always a special treat.
We drank water
From the garden hose and not from a bottle.
We shared one soft drink with four friends,
From one bottle and no one actually died from this.
We ate cupcakes, white bread, real butter and bacon.
We drank Kool-Aid made with real white sugar.
And, we weren't overweight.

WHY?

Because we were
Always outside playing...that's why!
We would leave home in the morning and play all day,
As long as we were back when the
Streetlights came on.
No one was able
To reach us all day. And, we were O.K.
We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps
And then ride them down the hill, only to find out
We forgot the brakes. After running into the bushes
a few times, we learned to solve the problem.
We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's and X-boxes.
There were no video games, no 150 channels on cable,
No video movies or DVD's, no surround-sound or CD's,
No cell phones,
No personal computers, no Internet and no chat rooms.
WE HAD FRIENDS
And we went outside and found them!
We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth
And there were no lawsuits from these accidents.
We ate worms and mud pies made from dirt,
And the worms did not live in us
Forever.
We were given BB guns for our 10th birthdays,
Made up games with sticks and tennis balls and,
Although we were told it would happen,
We did not put out very many eyes..
We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and
Knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just
Walked in and talked to them.
Little League had tryouts and not everyone made the team.
Those who didn't had to learn to deal
With disappointment.
Imagine that!!
The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law
Was unheard of.
They actually sided with the law!
These generations have produced some of the best
Risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever.
The past 50 years
Have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.
We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility,
and we learned how to deal with it all.

Friends and Family,

Our 12 year old Cam and I (Tonya) are planning a trip to the Dominican Republic as part of a parent/child missionary team being sent from our church, Brookside Church in Omaha, Nebraska. We have friends that are full time missionaries there and we will be hooking up with them. Cam showed interest in this trip after he was given the opportunity to lead a friend from an atheist family to Christ. He also is currently taking Spanish and is very excited to experience a new culture and to help those in need.

The cost of the trip is $650 per person, for a total of $1300. We are fundraising for this trip as it is impossible for us to go on our dime alone. It is a missions trip through our church and they are paying for a portion of the trip. The $650 is what is left over as our cost. Anything you can donate would be SO appreciated. If we get above and beyond our goal, we will take the remainder with us to the Dominican Republic and donate it to the Shauls and their ministry. Remember this is a fully tax deductible donation and I am fully prepared to send receipts stating so for you. When I first hear about this, I thought it would make the shirt scratchy, or heavy...but the weight is really no different from any other t-shirt....and honestly, as far as wearing it...at least according to my daughter...there is no scratchy feel at all. The shirt itself is very comfortable and soft.

MY TAKE:

It was really neat...they let me choose what type of font and picture I would like. Since I have so many kids, I didn't want one kid getting their own label, so I had them do "The Fillemans" with a cross on it. Forgive the juice spill in the picture...Major had just had some orange juice before I took it....I thought about wiping it off...but the OJ gives you the reality that I HAVE used the labels! :-)

Anyway, I thought they looked beautiful and I have used them in clothes, shoes, sippy cups, books....I went a little crazy with labels! :-) But it was SO fun! Anyway...in your package they send you clothing backers and shoe shields to insure that those particular labesl stay PUT! Like I said before you pick your font and your icon...and of course the name on the label. Then they make sure you know what you're doing by sending you a "how to" brochure.

I have to say, I was a bit skeptical...I have tried labels before and none worked...but these labels made it through the laundry, they made it through the dishwasher and my children's smelly feet. MULTIPLE TIMES! They didn't fray, fall off, or look like they have been on there forever. They are on there...and aren't coming off! UNLESS of course you want them too. And when you want them to, they don't wrip and leave that sticky mess behind. The only reason I know this is that my three year old likes to sit and pick on things when he is in front of the tv...sometimes his nose...sometimes his fingers...but this particular day he picked at the label on this sippy cup and it came off with a little effot on his part. It came off clean and unwripped. You may think it must be easy to get them off then. Well..yes and no. If you want them off, they'll come off...but like I said, the laundry, the dishwasher, etc....nothing takes them off...except a three year old who has experience picking! :-)

All in all, I really was happy about how well they worked. I will be passing applied labels name around to my friends who have small children and need to label things for travel, or when they go to Sunday School, etc. They are very handy little doodads!

I have to say...I am not thrilled with the monkey...though he is kinda cute! But what is ON the t-shirt isn't what matters...because it is just a protype...but the shirt itself seems to be very resilient and it is VERY comfy. I have had t-shirts before that weren't comfortable...they were either scratchy or rought, and I just didn't like the feel of them. I have a son who has allergy problems, so he is often itchy....so we ALWAYS have to look for t-shirts that are extra soft for him, and these fit the bill. They were very cozy, so I can imagine that their hoodies and sweats would also be very cozy. Their prices seem to be very comparable also. The only problem I had...other than the monkey...was that it was way too big. But that is my fault. I ordered an XL because I don't like the FITTED Larges...but...this is not a fitted t-shirt...I should have read a bit further before I ordered! So...with that in mind...the XL isn't too big...it is just too big for me. Their sizes seem to be right on, so when ordering...you should know that. They DO have fitted t-shirts though...this is just not one of them.

CMT Premiers a new series called "Working Class"

On Friday, January 28th, CMT will premier a new series called Working Class with Melissa Peterman from "Reba".

WORKING CLASS focuses on Carli Mitchell (Melissa Peterman), a single mom from a rough and tumble background, trying to give her kids a better life by moving them to an upscale suburb. She quickly finds that making the transition to “the good life” is harder than she thought.

She's unwittingly befriended by her cranky neighbor, Hank (Ed Asner), her only “career” prospect is a glorified deli job at the local grocery store, and the man she falls for not only already has a girlfriend – but he’s also her boss, Rob (Patrick Fabian). With her ladies-man brother, Nick (Steve Kazee), to help her out (when he’s not acting like one of the kids himself), Carli faces the challenges of parenting, dating, and making friends in her new community by doing more with less, staying true to herself, and approaching each day with a touch of working class.

MY TAKE:

I thought this episode was very good! It looks like it will be a very good series too! I giggled and caught myself looking forward to the next episode. Sadly, I don't have CMT, so I can't watch the next episode...but if I DID have CMT...I would make a point to see it! That is THE ONLY downfall of this series is that it is only on CMT. Otherwise, I can't say that I disliked any of it. Carli is a fun loving character to watch, and her brother is even more fun to watch! He is a bit irresponsible, but still "the brother". You can't fire family! :-) I also found the episode to be family friendly. I would have no trouble allowing my entire family to watch it.

Honestly, I was never a huge fan of Melissa Peterman...but she is...different in this. I really enjoyed watching her. And even more enjoyable are the list of guests who will be visiting, Reba among them!

I was starting to wonder where all the good comedy went. I get tired of watching what seems like the same thing over and over again. This is a different series, and family friendly. I truly enjoyed it and I think that most of my readers would too! Be sure to catch it on CMT at 7pm central time! I really don't think you will be sorry!

MY TAKE:
WOW! This book was incredible! For those of you who know me...first of all...I am a HUGE football fan! I read books written by football players...just because they are football players! I know...I am weird....but I love the sport. So when I saw that Shaun Alexander had written a book...and one about God no less, I thought I needed to read it.

The Walk totally took me by surprise. I had heard that Shaun Alexander was a speaker now, but I didn't know that he was SO good. He really knows his bible!

The book is very clear cut and straight forward, I could read between the lines that if you don't like it...tough. He is very committed to Christ and furthering His Kingdom which to me is just absolutely awesome! I have gained even more respect for him now after reading this book.

I took a lot away from the book too. Shaun Alexander lays it out for you. For example...you can't be a "teacher" in the Word until you have learned to be the "example", etc. It is very eye opening and actually a lot of it is common sense...but so many times human beings want to skip steps, not thinking about the common sense part of it.

This is a book that I gave to my husband immediately, as he struggles on a daily basis how to have a better relationship with God...as we all do. I think this would be a fabulous book for anybody, but especially those who want to do more for God's Kingdom. Those looking at going into the ministry in one way or another, NEED to read this book.

I am looking forward to someday hearing Shaun Alexander speak! Or read yet another book of his...whichever comes first.

I love this! I use it for my children's school papers. I have four kids...and there are four pouches...so it works fantastic! It is just the right size. The kids know when they get home, to put their papers in there. I look at them...and if they have anything that needs to be returned...I put it back in. They know to check it in the morning before they go to school. It has been a huge space saver...my counter to is now empty...and we can find things now!

Millard South High Shooting

We live only a block away from this school....we see and hear most everything that goes on at least on the football and practice field daily. This is the school my kids will go to. Currently my kids go to the middle school and elementary school, only a few blocks away. They were on lock down for over an hour today. The middle school closed and locked all doors...kids were directed to stay away from windows. But...at the elementary school, they have an open floor plan which means, other than the front and back doors...there are no doors to the rooms....so the kids had to get in corners under desks and laydown for over an hour. Poor babies. They at first thought it was a really long drill...but then they started getting nervous after awhile. MaKenna...bless her heart...just fell asleep on the floor...while Jake's heart was beating a little faster not knowing what was going on. Cam...in middle school...just enjoyed getting to watch youtube with his teacher.

Such a senseless act. I REALLY don't get it. It is SO not worth it...why?? These two priciples are wonderful people...and Dr. Kaspar...rest her soul...would have been 59 tomorrow. All over a silly suspension. Really? Is life THAT bad? Satan got his claws into that boy and didn't let go...is there anyway to prevent something like this from happening again????

Millard South Asst. Principal Dies after School Shooting

Millard South School Shooting Omaha, NE - Assistant Principal Dr. Vicki Kaspar died Wednesday night after she was shot inside Millard South High School early in the afternoon. A spokesperson for the Millard Public Schools says Dr. Kaspar would have turned 59-years-old Thursday.

Millard South High School will be closed Thursday. Counseling will be available for students, staff and parents at the high school and the Stroh Administrative Center from 8:00-5:00 p.m. Thursday. Millard South student Taylor Anderson remembered Dr. Kaspar Wednesday night, "Dr. Kaspar, she's extremely respected, very kind and caring. She is always at the basketball and football games and is a very great person to talk to."

Dr. Kaspar had worked for Millard Public Schools since 1988; she became an assistant principal in 1998.

South Principal Dr. Curtis Case remained in serious condition Wednesday night. Superintendent Dr. Keith Lutz as young and energetic.

The first emergency calls to 911 reported 4 or 5 shots had been fired inside the school office at 12:50 p.m. Many students were in the cafeteria, near the office. The school declared a "Code Red" situation and went into lockdown immediately; students were not allowed the leave until several hours after the shooting. Teachers kept the students in classrooms, the lights were turned off, the students were asked to remain quiet.

Omaha Police Chief Alex Hayes confirmed student Robert Butler, Jr., shot the administrators, then fled from the school. Butler later shot and killed himself in his car, parked in an office complex parking lot a couple miles from the school. Butler is the son of an Omaha police detective. A status update on Butler's Facebook page this afternoon said, "Everybody that used (sic) to me. I'm sorry but Omaha changed me and f****ed me up and the school I know (sic) attend is even worse. Ur gonna hear about the evil s***t I did but that f****ing school drove me to this. I want you guys to remember me for who I was before this. I know I greatly affected the lives of the families I ruined but I'm sorry. Goodbye.

Butler transferred to Millard South in November from Lincoln Southwest.

Late Wednesday, students were released from the school, one class at a time. Most had remained in contact with friends and parents by text messages. Parents rushed to the school to wait for their students.

Juno Baby...review and GREAT DEAL!!

I couldn't agree with you more Belinda!!! As a piano teacher and someone who has played different instruments in her life....music is an INTEGRAL part of our lives! Finally...somebody who gets it!!

The DVD I received is called "The Day the Music Stopped." This is for preschoolers...but like I said, my 11 year old was watching it too and he said it was really cute. This is a story about music that has been shushed in a town. It is a story of creating music to bring it back to their town. It was so cute!

Recently I was asked to review photos from iCaughtSanta.com. Basically what it is, is a site that allows you to put in your photo and select a Santa pose to put in your photo. I was a bit unsure....I wasn't sure how good it would look...how real....how easy it would be, etc. What I found though was that you can make it look very real by "sizing" Santa to your picture which is VERY easy, and the whole process was extremely easy and very quick! I was VERY happy with the outcome.

Imagine the look of wonder and surprise when a child receives a photo of Santa caught in
their house. That is what enticed me! My two older boys are starting to doubt the existence. And yes...I know that someday they will know the truth...but it is FUN to believe! I still even believe. Why can't God have a Santa to make Christmas miracles come true? God can use anything and anybody as a vessel right? So...why not a jolly old man with 8 tiny reindeer? Anyway...I thought making a picture that proves "he is real", would put their doubts to rest...at least for this year! For those of you who have been to my house...that is my mantle. There are several different poses to choose from....you don't have to have a fireplace to make this look real!

What I found was that it isn't just Santa! They have a couple different characters. One being the tooth fairy! I can't wait to use this one for MaKenna when she loses her first tooth!!! Check that out at CatchaCharacter.com!

A recent article in The New York Times titled “Growing Up Digital, Wired for Distraction” also discussed the effects of technology compared to focusing and learning.

“We as parents must be deliberate of what media our kids consume, understanding that it is forming the way our kids look at everything – self image, friends, parents, leaders, themselves,” remarks iShine Founder and Chief Creative Officer Robert Beeson. “If we as parents aren’t actively forming the person our kid’s are becoming – make no mistake – someone else is.”

I meant to start posting these as soon as I started winning...but time got away from me....so I am going to back post from May to now on my winnings throughout blog land. I spend a lot of time on it at night when the kids go to bed...but not all of it is entering giveaways....I do a lot of e-mailing friends, family and church obligations....I also have my family blog and this blog. So...really I am not on the computer ALL that much. I have a special program that makes entering giveaways THAT much easier too! It fills a lot of the info out for me. It is called Roboform. Okay...I guess that is more than just a handful...but that is about it. Don't forget all of the wonderful things that I have gotten for free for reviewing too!!! I didn't count all of that. I have gotten tickets to Mickey Live for the whole family...I have reviewed children's websites that I get free subscriptions to, I have reviewed lip glosses, makeup, deodarant, Fiber Gummies, Eye drops, DVDs, Clothing, etc. Because my number of followers isn't very high, I don't get the HUGE reviews and giveaways...but I love what I can do.

I also do a few surveys here and there, or review something like a TV show. I get compensation for doing that by Target Giftcards, or Amazon giftcards...usually $25 at a time.

Everytime I was pregnant, I struggled with my legs hurting...and I always wanted to find something that would help them. I did use a Mary Kay item for awhile, but it had Eucalypus smell in it, and I couldn't stomach it thanks to my pregnancy. I HAVE sampled this and I think it is great! It works like a charm. I don't have pregnant aches in my legs and feet right now, but I do have weather changing aches in my legs and feet and this really helped with those aches and pains. It has several organic moisturizers to help penetrate deep into your legs to help wtih the dry skin too. It is organic of course and does have a refreshing scent....HOWEVER...if I were pregnant, the scent I think...would bother me. Why? I have TERRIBLE morning sickness throughout MOST of the pregnancy...ANYTHING that smelled like ANYTHING makes me sick...so since this DOES have a fragrance...as refreshing as it may be...I think it would bother me during pregnancy. DEFINITELY does NOT bother me know...but I wouldn't doubt it if it did then. Otherwise the product DOES do what it says it will do...which means I still give it 2 thumbs up outside of pregnancy...but unfortunatly 1 thumb up and 1 thumb down for during pregnancy.
